The problem isn’t intelligence; the problem isn’t even ignorance or education.

Ben Shapiro knows about vaccines. He knows how they work and that they’re effective.

But, whether his current Covid-19 stance is pure grift or partially sincere irrelevant. His politics have led him to a place where he has to oppose people “being forced” to get vaccinated, and he can’t speak out against people who selfishly choose not to get vaccinated, not if he wants to maintain his current social status and, relatedly, his current income.

The thing about capitalism, like all grifting, is it’s much easier to get money doing something when you believe what you’re doing isn’t a grift than to recognize what you’re doing and just try to continue not to care.
