Pacifism requires opposing state violence, not policing protesters

If you’re a pacifist or someone who solely supports non-violent resistance, you are allowed to have those principles (assuming they’re matched with direct actions of some kind).

But please make sure you waste not a single word or breath distancing yourself from violent resistance to fascism.

You may well feel that you abhor all violence; that may be genuine and sincere. Well and good, if so.

But: criticism over the tactics of those resisting the State as it abducts, maims, tortures, executes, and otherwise terrorizes people should be placed well beneath State violence as your priority.

Do what you consider moral. Disrupt the bloody machine with your body, time, and resources as you think is best and allows you to fight it most strongly for yourself.

But, short of being harmed directly, do not denounce other people doing things you think are not the best; do not police them.

Most work that must be done is nonviolent: feeding, childcare, trainings on “Stop the Bleed”, and a thousand other things are nonviolent work it’s important. It’s necessary. It is hard and often thankless. Do it, but do not blame people pushed into violent resistance or say it justifies their harm.

Resistance to tyranny looks like lots of things, and some of those things are “kinetic”. Those don’t have to be what you take part in, but if you are sincerely opposed to violence, do not denounce the people doing tiny, individual acts of it as best they can while massive State abuse still endures.

(By the way, if the gov wants to smash up a protest, it doesn’t need to be like that scene from “One Battle After Another” where they send in undercover agent provocateurs to toss molotov cocktails as an excuse to shoot tear gas. They will just shoot at people and lie about the reason why.)
